BJP Secures Decisive Victory in 2024 Indian General Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the 2024 Indian General Elections handily, marking a historic victory. In the process of leading the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the BJP secured 290 seats in the Lok Sabha, surpassing the majority threshold. Important victories in important states like Gujarat, where the NDA swept all 26 seats, and Uttar Pradesh, where it won 72 out of 80 seats, contributed to the party’s success.​

The opposition’s INDIA alliance, which is made up of a number of parties including the Indian National Congress (INC) and regional heavyweights, showed significant resiliency by securing 228 seats in spite of the BJP’s resounding victory. Notable victories for the coalition were achieved in Telangana, where it won 10 of the 17 seats, and Tamil Nadu, where it won all 39 seats.​In the elections of 2024, regional parties remained vital. With the victory of 22 seats, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) maintained its hegemony in West Bengal. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by Chandrababu Naidu, won 17 of the 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh, while the YSR Congress took home eight seats.​
