DOES CURRENT POLICY SUPPORT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH OF AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE VETERANS?

Internal Defence policy in general has long been criticised as copious, confusing and convoluted. Following a number of reviews and initiatives including, most recently, the First Principles Review of Defence, the way we develop and promulgate policy is being addressed and refreshed. Notably, the new DHM21 represents a concerted effort to revise, simplify and consolidate medical and health related policy in line with both First Principles and the Defence Administrative Policy Framework. This revision offers the opportunity to ensure that all health policy is reviewed and updated in accordance with Australian and international best practice, rather than just transitioning to a new structure. While extant policy is sufficient, and is unlikely to harm, practical and technological advances, especially in relation to sexual and reproductive health, over the past 15+ years should be reflected in a best practice, world leading Australian Defence policy.
