Asstasticashley | Cat-Cow Stretch: Promoting Spine Mobility
The Cat-Cow Stretch is an excellent exercise for warming up the spine and improving mobility. Begin in a tabletop position with your hands beneath your shoulders and your knees beneath your hips. As you inhale, arch your back, lifting your head and tailbone towards the ceiling (the Cow position). On the exhale, round your spine, tucking your chin towards your chest and drawing your belly button towards your spine (the Cat position). Repeat this flow for several breaths, focusing on the movement of your spine.
This dynamic stretch not only enhances spinal flexibility but also promotes relaxation and body awareness. Practicing the Cat-Cow Stretch allows you to connect your breath with movement, creating a mindful experience that sets the tone for your Pilates practice. Beginners should aim to perform this stretch slowly and mindfully, paying attention to the sensations in their bodies as they move.
