Car Air Flow Sensor Replacement: A Complete Guide

What Is a Car Air Flow Sensor?

A car air flow sensor, commonly known as the mass air flow (MAF) sensor, is a crucial component of a vehicle’s engine management system. Its primary function is to measure the amount of air entering the engine so that the engine control unit (ECU) can adjust the fuel injectors accordingly. This ensures that the right air-to-fuel ratio is maintained for optimal engine performance.

There are two types of air flow sensors: hot-wire and vane-type, both of which help regulate the engine’s air intake. The mass air flow sensor also provides feedback to other systems, such as the exhaust and emission control systems.
