Nitrogen (N₂) gas
Nitrogen is a colorless, odorless and non-toxic gas at room temperature and pressure. It does not burn or help to ignite. It is separated from air by distillation or pressure swing adsorption. When the amount of nitrogen in the air increases, it will dilute oxygen and cause asphyxiation. Liquid nitrogen can cause frostbite when it touches the skin. Nitrogen gas is used in food preservation and packaging, welding and metal processing, healthcare, agriculture, and electronics manufacturing.
