Permanent magnet stepper motor works by using the Lorentz force law. When a current-carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, the conductor is subjected to force due to the interaction of flux. Specifically, the rotor of the permanent magnet stepper motor uses permanent magnet steel, while the stator generates a magnetic field through windings.
