Super-PON Redefining Optical Access with IEEE Standardization

As part of the efforts to extend Ethernet optical subscriber access, specialists from the IEEE 802.3 group and Google Fiber collaborated to develop the Super-PON technology. Originally initiated as a study group, Super-PON has now been fully standardized under IEEE Std 802.3cs-2022. This technology supports up to 10 Gbps symmetrical data transfer rates. The standardized solution allows a headend to service up to 1024 client connections over distances of up to 50 km, utilizing DWDM spectral multiplexing technology
