Well Block

The tundish well block is a key connecting and supporting component between the tundish and nozzle. Its main function is to fix and protect the inner nozzle of the tundish.

Although both are called “well block”, the ladle well block and tundish well block are designed for different positions and working conditions in steelmaking systems.

1. Installation Position

Ladle Well Block

Installed at the bottom center of the steel ladle, forming a key structural part of the ladle refractory lining.

Tundish Well Block

Installed at the bottom outlet area of the tundish, connecting with the tundish nozzle or flow control system.

2. Working Conditions

Ladle Well Block

Direct contact with molten steel (1550–1650°C)

Severe thermal shock and strong slag/steel erosion

High static pressure from molten steel

Tundish Well Block

Contact with secondary refined molten steel

Relatively more stable temperature conditions

Lower pressure but higher requirement for flow stability and cleanliness
