Why 40-Mesh Is the Standard for Insect Netting
Mesh count, not material thickness, is what actually determines pest protection — 40 mesh is the common baseline because it blocks aphids, whiteflies, and moths while still letting enough air and light through for normal growth. Tighter mesh cuts airflow; looser mesh lets smaller pests through.
PE netting also depends on UV stabilizers to hold up through a full outdoor growing season — without that additive, the plastic degrades and turns brittle under prolonged sun exposure right when protection matters most.
