The Wankel engine, also known as a rotary engine, is a less common type of internal combustion engine. Instead of pistons moving up and down in cylinders, the Wankel engine uses a triangular rotor that spins inside an oval-shaped housing. This design is unique and provides a smooth, continuous power delivery. Wankel engines are known for their compact size and high-revving nature, which makes them popular in performance cars. They offer a smooth driving experience with less vibration compared to traditional piston engines. The most famous use of a Wankel engine was in the Mazda RX-7 sports car. However, Wankel engines have some drawbacks. They tend to be less fuel-efficient than conventional engines, and their design can result in higher emissions. Despite these issues, their unique design continues to appeal to car enthusiasts and those looking for a distinct engine experience.
