This product is also known as sym-tetrachloroethane, it is non-flammable and non-explosive, colorless and transparent liquid. Its melting point is -44℃(-36℃), the boiling point is 146.5℃. Its relative density is 1.58658g/cm3 at 62 °C (45mm Hg) and refractive index is 1.49418 (25/4℃). It is miscible with ethanol, methanol, chloroform, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, benzene, dimethyl amide and oil while it is difficultly soluble in water. The product will volatile with water steam. It has chloroform smell. The impure product is readily to decompose to yield hydrogen chloride and trichloro ethylene while the pure product is stable. The product is acid stable but readily to decompose to yield trichloro ethylene in the existence of alkali.
