Terrazzo flooring, with its distinctive blend of marble, granite, glass, or other aggregates set in a cement or epoxy binder, offers a unique and durable surface for homes and businesses. For a deeper clean, choose a pH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for terrazzo or natural stone. Harsh chemicals can etch the surface or damage the binder. Dilute the cleaner according to the manufacturer’s instructions and apply it using a mop or microfiber cloth. Rinse the mop frequently with clean water to avoid spreading dirt.  

Pay attention to any stains or spills, as terrazzo can be susceptible to staining depending on the type of binder used. Blot spills immediately to prevent them from penetrating the surface. For stubborn stains, consider using a poultice made of baking soda and water or a specialized poultice for terrazzo.  

While modern terrazzo floors are often sealed during installation, older floors may not be. If your terrazzo floor is unsealed, consider applying a sealer to protect it from staining and make cleaning easier. Consult a flooring professional to determine the appropriate type of sealer for your specific terrazzo composition.

For high-traffic areas or heavily soiled floors, consider using a floor machine with a soft scrubbing pad. This can provide a deeper clean and restore the shine of your terrazzo. However, it’s important to use caution and avoid excessive scrubbing, as this can damage the surface.
